CHRISTIANITY: SPIRITUAL VERSES SOCIAL

CHRISTIANITY: SPIRITUAL VERSES SOCIAL
Hello all!

I am trying to organize how I want to approach sharing what I have been learning, and realized a great place to start is to show the difference between “spiritual” and “social” Christianity. Sadly, most Christians have become “social” Christians, and so much has been lost or perverted by the “traditions of men”.

It is not about going to church it is all about being the church. Israel is the church, and anyone who believes and follows Christ is Israel! I have shared much about who Israel is and one can search for these studies, on this site, if interested. We must know this, it is crucial to understanding biblical truth.

That being said, here is a short article by Michael David Gantt that gives us a list of the major differences between spiritual and social Christians.

############

Spiritual Christianity vs Social Christianity

Spiritual Christians focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. Social Christians focus on each other.

Spiritual Christians are the church. Social Christians go to church.

Spiritual Christianity is about living righteously, doing the right thing. Social Christianity is about living religiously, attending the “right” church.
Spiritual Christianity is about doing the right things in the right way. Social Christianity is about holding the “right” views and identifying with the “right” group.

Spiritual Christians seek the approval of God. Social Christians seek the approval of each other.

Spiritual Christians seek time with God. Social Christians seek time with other social Christians.

Spiritual Christianity is based on faith in God. Social Christianity is based on faith in other social Christians.

Spiritual Christianity is directed by God. Social Christianity is directed by human beings.

Spiritual Christianity is true Christianity, the purpose for which Christ died and was raised. Social Christianity is a poor and misguided imitation of the real thing.

Pursuing spiritual Christianity will make you a new person in the midst of people you already know (i.e., your family, friends, and coworkers). Pursuing social Christianity will leave you as the same old person in the midst of a different group of people (i.e., your new church).

There is a world of difference between spiritual Christianity and social Christianity. Choose the real thing.”

############

One has to choose spiritual over social or we have no chance to truly “know” the Lord nor truly begin to understand His Word. This is what “being born again” is all about…becoming a new person in Christ. Great place to begin! We are Israel!  As His followers we are spiritual Israel and it matters not if you are Jew or Gentile!!  This is major…so seek until you find this truth as it will set you free to understand oh so much more!

PRETERISM: A TRUTH WITH EXCELLENT CONSEQUENCES

PRETERISM: A TRUTH WITH EXCELLENT CONSEQUENCES

Hello all!

My,my, I never thought I would be able put a label on all the discoveries I have been making in regards to the Truth. Yet, it is clear to me that where my studies have led me, I would now be considered a Preterist. I had never even heard the word before I was accused of being one, when I started writing about fulfilled prophecies and spiritual interpretations. And actually defended myself against being called one, once I found out what it did mean.

I now am thrilled to have found others that have come to the same conclusions I have, and have spent much time in research and writing and sharing what they found out.

I have found a very outstanding article by Larry Siegle, entitled “Preterism: Pure Christianity or Dangerous Cult”. In this article he lists the characteristics of a cult and compares them with the characteristics of Preterism. It is the characteristics of Preterism that I want to share first here. This list describes exactly what I have come to find as the way to know the Truth.

Here is the list, with some of my comments, and the full article can be found at:

https://preterist.wordpress.com/2008/10/26/preterism-pure-christianity-or-dangerous-cult/

CHARACTERISTICS OF PRETERISM

Below is listed some of the distingushing characteristics of Preterism

1.) Preterism has no “charismatic” leader or founder, and the view has been present, in varying degrees, for hundreds of years–it is not something “new” or “recent” in its development.

2.) Preterism claims no “new” revelation to those who are leaders and encourages each person to study the Scriptures for themselves.

(Yes! This is so important! Find out for yourself!)

3.) Preterism accepts the Bible alone as its “authority” plus nothing else.

4.) Preterism looks for “consistency” in the translation and usage of words given by the Holy Spirit to the inspired writers of the Bible and believes that the context determines the meaning of a word.

(So much that is being preached is taken out of context and timings twisted and confusing to understand. When one sees the true timing on all the events suddenly every verse makes sense and falls into the context in which it was uttered.)

5.) Preterism encourages people to use proper principles of interpretation and that each person is responsible for “accurately handling the word of truth” (II Tim. 2:15).

6.) Preterism as an approach to the “end-time” is founded among members of many groups and is not considered to be a “matter of salvation” for those who do not embrace the view.

7.) Preterism is represented by a diversity of viewpoints, most of which hold to “orthodox” views relative to the Trinity, the Deity of Christ, the nature of Hell and other fundemental doctrines accepted by the “historic” church down through the centuries.

8.) Preterism contends that salvation is “by grace through faith” (Eph. 2:8-10), and not on the basis of human “works” or the need to somehow “earn” the favor of God.

9.) Preterism recognizes that it is not the “popular” view at this time, but makes no assumption of superiority because of opposition to their understanding of fulfilled Bible prophecy.

10.) Preterism encourages systematic Bible study methods, proper exegesis of passages and encourages people to decide for themselves based upon the evidence.

############

Now, here are some comments and his list of a cult’s characteristics:

DOES THE SHOE FIT?

Recently there have been some who have made the attempt to lump the teachings of Preterism into the same category as Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, Herbert W. Armstrong, and every other false “ism” that comes along. Is preterist doctrine just another “made in America” doctrine, too “new” to be true? Are those who have accepted the Preterist view in danger of being “lost” because of this doctrine? Are Preterists actually Christians in the “Biblical” sense of the term, or are they members now of a dangerous “cult” that denies the fundamentals of “the faith which was once for all time delivered to the saints” (Jude 3)? Do Preterists use the same conversion “tactics” of the “cults” to subvert the faith of the unsuspecting and the weak?

CHARACTERISTICS OF A CULT

Almost all of the groups that are either “cults” or engage in “cultic” beliefs and practices have similar characteristics:

1.) Founded by a “charismatic” leader (C.T. Russell, Joseph Smith, Ellen G. White, Herbert W. Armstrong).

2.) Founded on the basis of some “new” revelation given only to the leader or leaders of the group.

3.) Founded on the basis of the Bible plus some other “authority” to unveil “new truth” as it becomes available to the leaders or organization.

4.) Founded on the need to redefine words and to twist passages to “fit” into their unique systematic theology.

5.) Founded on the principle that the Bible must be understood in the light of the “unique” interpretation of the leader or leaders.

6.) Founded on the belief that they are the “only” true religion and that they alone will be saved because they alone have discovered the “truth.”

7.) Founded on the rejection of doctrines such as the Trinity, the Deity of Christ, Hell, Salvation by Faith etc.

8.) Founded on the basis of “works” in order to “earn” their salvation, with absolute obedience to the leadership required.

9.) Founded on the basis of a “persecution complex” that rejoices when people are opposed to their teachings as confirmation that they must have “the truth.”

10.) Founded on the use of “secretive” methods of introducing their doctrines to unsuspecting people.

Other common traits could be listed, but the above represents a “general” description of what constitutes a “cult” in practical fact.

#############

Wow! The second list sounds like the characteristics of many mainstream churches today!! Anther great example how truly different the Truth is from Religion!!

I just have to add some thoughts from another article because it states so well what finding out for myself has meant to me…as it led me to becoming a Preterist.

https://preterist.wordpress.com/2008/07/31/is-preterism-a-cult-not-even-close/

“Because those who have pure and honest hearts and who have a deep love for the Lord and devotion to His word will continue to study and as long as study continues so also will preterism. There is no place left for futurists to hide. There is no corner of the Internet where their feeble lines of argumentation cannot be answered. There is no place where the spirit of Truth will not find them and uncover the nonsense they continue to peddle.

A hundred years from now the discussion of this and many other blogs, websites and whatever the “next” step in technology is, will be HISTORY. However, HISTORY and the passing of time are the futurists worst enemies! With each passing day the reality of broken promises and failed predictions becomes more vivid than ever. Larry Siegle, Dee Dee Warren and Roderick Edwards will be long gone, but NOT the message. Preterism will continue to grow and eventually fill the hearts and minds of believers everywhere. One day historians will wonder how it could be that ANYONE ever accepted the fantastic doctrines upon which the house of futurism was built. I will not be around to say, “I told you so” THEN, so I am going to avoid the rush and tell you NOW.

No “cultic movement” here. None whatsoever.

Amen to that!

FULL CIRCLE (Finding out for Myself)

FULL CIRCLE (Finding out for Myself)

Hello all!

The silence of the past few months has had a purpose. It has been a period of fresh revelations for me. I have been studying like a crazy person, and not sure how or when to start sharing my finding. I guess it is time, so here I am.

What a long strange trip it has been! I am amazed that through 20 years of Bible studies, Bible College, and attending a multitude of churches, of varying denominations, I have come full circle back to the day when I was “born again”.  On that day (Sept 24th 1978) I found the Truth when Jesus found me. I knew in an instant that I could live in eternity by living in the moment with Christ. God is love and loves everyone and wants everyone to be set free in Christ. That the spiritual world trumps the material world and by focusing on Christ one can live spiritually every moment, and death to self brings abundant new life. This was massively life changing!

I went from being broken to being whole! I could not contain the love and joy within me. I was a different person and all my relationships changed. And shortly after that earthshaking day, I did sell everything I owned and went on the road proclaiming the JOY of the Good News!!

Yet, after three years, I settled down and starting going to church, realizing I had not truly studied the Word of God. I had attended church as a child and as a teen I sang in the choir and taught vacation Bible school, so I knew the major highlights of the Gospel, and pretty much believed what preachers were preaching about God’s Word. Still, I did not find the fire of the Spirit in many of the churches I attended. To me, all the different denominations were creating division not unity in the body of Christ, by chopping up the Word to suit the traditions of men.

In 1997 I decided to start reading and studying the Bible for myself. I read books about the “rapture” and the Left Behind series of books and started to see how churches were so divided on these issues and nothing they were teaching really rang true in my heart.

I attended Bible College in 2004 and got my Masters in Theology and really got into understanding the End Times as taught by the pre-trib and pre-wrath rapture groups and authors. I was completely sold on this interpretation of the Bible, so much so, that I started writing about it on a pre-trib web site called Five Doves. I got really into waiting for the rapture and trying to figure out the timing and all that, and wrote many many articles about how and when this would happen. It was exciting, I felt that I was learning so much.

The more I studied on my own the more I started to see that I did not see in His Word the same things that others were seeing and started to write about what I was finding. As soon as I did this, and started to stray away from the herd of pre-tribbers, I was thrown off the web site. As soon as that happened, the Lord started giving me new revelations and I started asking questions and rely on Him to show me in His Word the answers I was looking for.

The major turning point was when I started writing for another web site (Rapture Prophecy Bible Forum) and found out who Israel truly is. That is the foundation for all Bible study…once one knows whom Israel is, one can never go back to dispensational beliefs. That opened the flood gates of revelations from the Lord. He made sure that I would have the time to truly focus on what the Holy Spirit was showing me. I fell down some stairs and broke both of my feet and was not able to do anything but study the Bible. And Study I did!! I was consumed with it, day and night and felt on fire for the Truth. Things that I had believed in for so long just fell away, and everyday I was finding out more and more.

Although I started to see that there is no end time rapture, I still believed in a future Second Coming and that we were in the Last Days and how the world was becoming a dark place full of evil. I wrote much about this…even on this blog. Yet, at the same time finding out about the Kingdom of God and how it has already come, and how the Jewish feasts have all been fulfilled in Christ. We are not waiting for the last three to be fulfilled as so many preach and teach. The plan of Salvation was FINISHED AT THE CROSS, and all that was left to be fulfilled was the sending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost…the 7th and last feast not the 4th…and Christ’s Second Coming in Judgment and the resurrection of the saints.

That brings me up to recent time, and my most recent revelations from the Lord and I am shocked at what I have found out! I never even conceived that the Bible was a finished work and that there was no longer anything left to be fulfilled. Yet, that is what I have found out and it is AMAZING how I feel totally set free!! The Truth truly does set one free from the searching and the divisions of the traditions of man!! It all makes so much sense and every verse has taken on a new and heartfelt meaning!!

It is GOOD NEWS!! Jesus is our King we can live in His Kingdom RIGHT NOW!! He did ALL He said he would do, when He said He would do it, all we need to do is KNOW HIM. The only event left to happen will happen to each of His children when they pass from this world and into eternity.

So, that is why the silence on this blog for several months. I was so overwhelmed by my discoveries that I did not know how to approach beginning to write about it. Also, it labels me (and I hate labels in reference to divisions in Christ) I find that I have become a full Preterist. I would never ever have thought this is where my studies would lead, but cannot deny it is where the Lord has brought me. I am now ready to start proving it and that is what I will be doing from here on out.

Perhaps the most wonderful aspect of all this is that it has brought me full circle. When I was born again and shown the power of Jesus and relying on Him, I knew it was finished in Him…He was the answer to all. Love is the strongest power in the universe and God is love. Nothing else really mattered. It was not until I got caught up in the “traditions of men” that the path got crooked and the way confusing. Yet, it is so wonderful to find out that His Word tells us the Truth, and that Jesus is the Way, the TRUTH, and the life. That being said, I will be posting studies that helped me understand, and hope that anyone out there that is reading this may find what they may be looking for, as they take this journey OF FINDING OUT FOR YOURSELF.

God bless all, and may you be in His love and Light today and always!!

JESUS IS ALL AND EVERYTHING!!!
